History of Orthotropics education

Practical guidance about Orthotropics.

Professor John Mew first developed the Tropic Premise in 1967 although it was not published until 1981. A year later Egil Harvold in Toronto published his first paper on his experiments with monkeys. His findings fitted the Tropic Premise exactly, showing that the maxilla would distort if the tongue was not on the palate or if the mouth was kept open. Poor tongue posture was always associated with severe malocclusion.

Following this, Professor John Mew started giving lectures and subsequently a number of courses in different countries showing that the maxilla could be brought forward with treatment and demonstrating the long-term advantages this provided for the face and teeth.
